Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir down but not completely eliminated, says DGP Dilbag Singh

Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, stated that while militancy in the union territory has decreased, it has not been completely eradicated. Speaking at a function in Srinagar, Singh mentioned that there are still inimical elements attempting to create trouble in the region, and the police are taking strong actions against those involved in anti-national activities.

Singh also addressed the issue of missing Army personnel, assuring that all efforts are being made to trace the soldier. He highlighted that certain areas like Downtown in Srinagar are being appreciated by tourists, as they are home to talented youth, and efforts will be made to provide them with suitable platforms.

The DGP praised the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for focusing on building their careers, being engaged in studies, and preparing for competitive exams. He noted that the law and order situation in the region is better, and the number of active terrorists is at an all-time low, indicating successful anti-terrorist operations.

Singh mentioned the unprecedented flow of tourists to Jammu and Kashmir, with the smooth conduct of events like the Amarnath Yatra and Muharram processions with the cooperation of the people. He also highlighted the success in combating narco-terrorism, with around 20 major narco-terror modules being busted during the last and current years.

Meanwhile, the 19th Jammu and Kashmir Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament-2023, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme in collaboration with the J&K Football Association and J&K Sports Council, concluded at the Synthetic Turf Ground TRC in Srinagar. The tournament saw FC-1 emerging as the champions among the men's teams, while Kashmir Arrows secured victory among the women's teams.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Singh, who commended the successful conclusion of the mega event in the peaceful scenario of Jammu and Kashmir. He congratulated the winning and runner-up teams, the J&K Football Association, and all the participants for their contributions to the tournament's success. Singh expressed his hope for increased participation of women's teams in future editions and pledged support for preparing the JK Police Women team.

The DGP paid tribute to the martyrs and praised the continuous organization of the tournament, which began in 1998 in memory of Inspector Mushtaq Ahmad Baba. He stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Police will continue to organize events in memory of martyrs, assuring support to their families. Singh expressed gratitude to sports and football lovers for keeping the martyrs' memorial event alive through their contributions.
