The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday observed that it is surprising that the main accused Shajahan Sheikh has not been arrested by the state police so far. The court also allowed the leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to visit the restive Sandeshkhali village, while.
The division bench presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam refused to interfere into a single bench order that allowed Adhikari and another BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh to visit Sandeshkhali village panchayat area of Sandeshkhali Block II in North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, arrived in Sandeshkhali on Tuesday after getting permission from the Calcutta HC. He described the situation in the area as horrific and a clear example of anarchy. Adhikari, along with another BJP MLA Sankar Ghosh, spoke to the locals, including women, who narrated their "spine-chilling" experiences endured at the hands of TMC leaders, including absconding Shahjahan Sheikh.
