Unable to pay school fees, Std XII boy dies by suicide in Uttar Pradesh

A Std 12 student allegedly committed suicide in Shahjahanpur, UP, as he was "upset" over his father's failure to pay his school fees, police said on Thursday.

Anup Kumar, 18, shot himself with a countrymade pistol on Wednesday, after his father Parmeshwar Dayal told him that he could not arrange the money for his school fee, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahendra Kumar said.

Dayal, a labourer, told police that Anup had asked for R8,000 for school fees two months back. He asked again on Wednesday. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, police said.
