He urged the saffron party to rather shift their focus on making the Union govenrment give their assent to Mekedatu Dam project.

Rather than turning to cheap politics over water, the BJP must obtain sanction for the Mekedatu project, which will resolve all water difficulties in Bengaluru, DK Shivakumar told reporters outside Vidhana Soudha.

DK Shivakumar said that the Mekedatu project is crucial for resolving water issues in Bengaluru and called for the central government's approval.

He also criticised the party for spreading misinformation and asserted that the Mekedatu project, while addressing water scarcity in Karnataka, will not impact neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

The Mekedatu dam project will help to store 66 TMC of water and serve as a balancing reservoir for water distribution, especially to address Bengaluru's water needs.

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said that the demand for processed water is growing and cited that it is used in various sectors including households, industries, and gardens.

Amid the water shortage in Bengaluru, DK Shivakumar had previously said that Karnataka had not witnessed such a severe drought in past three-four decades

He had said that the next two months are crucial for the state and added that the situation however was not as grave as BJP projected.

Meanwhile, protests have erupted in Bengaluru over water shortage. Women protested against the Karnataka government over the ongoing water crisis and Cauvery water dispute, at Freedom Park in Bengaluru on Tuesday.
