He is the first prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to assume office for the third consecutive term

Modi began his political career as a member of the Hindu nationalist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). 

In 2001, he was elected as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He held the CMO till 2014 before winning the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat the same and being elected as the Prime Minister

In 2014, the BJP won 31.3 per cent vote share while in 2019 it went up to 37.7 per cent and dipped marginally to 36.6 per cent in 2024 election. 

In th 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP baggged 240 seats and the National Democratic Alliance has secured 292 seats out of 543 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress secured 99 seats. Samajwadi Party got 37 seats, while Trinamool Congress got 29. DMK managed to win 22 seats. 

Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Delhi on Sunday morning to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi. It is Muizzu's first visit to India after he became the island nation's president in November last year

Besides Muizzu, the other leaders attending the ceremony are Bangladesh President Sheikh Hasina, Vice-President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay

Meanwhile Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar expressed his happiness over Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's re-election for a third consecutive term, saying it is the happiest moment for all of us and India
