India on October 27 abstained on a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on Israel-Hamas conflict. UNGA adopted resolution calling for a humanitarian truce, protection of civilians, upholding legal and humanitarian obligations. While reacting on the subject, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the resolution deeply flawed. He said that no civilised country including India and others will tolerate the horror that unfolded in Israel. The breakdown of the recorded vote included 120 members in favour and 14 against, with 45 abstentions. Besides India, countries that abstained included the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and Ukraine. Israel has launched a massive counterstrike against Hamas after ‘surprise attacks’ by militant group on Oct 7.
