Exceptionally dubbed as âa ride for a ride' the law states that the instructors can offer lessons in exchange for sex as long as the students are over the age of 18. Ministers in the Netherlands' government were forced to defend it after it was branded as undesirable.
The law came under strong opposition from Gert-Jan Segers, from the socially conservative Christian Union party after he tabled a question in parliament suggesting that the practice should be illegal.
Prostitution in the Netherlands is a legal profession, and prostitutes are treated as self-employed persons. But, the prostitutes have an 'escort licence', under which they are allowed to legally operate. They pay their taxes on a self-employment basis.
