Gene Penaflor was on a hunting expedition in the Mendocino National Forest when he got separated from him hunting partner and later fell and blacked out, CBS News reported.
Nearly 20 agencies spent four days looking for the 72-year-old California man, but with a storm moving in and no sign of the missing hunter, the search was called off.
The man survived by eating squirrels, lizards, snakes and algae from the water, sleeping on dry leaves and keeping himself warm.
