Instead of condemning Varun, the BJP supported him.u00a0 The Muslims voted for the Congress to ensure that the BJP stayed out. Credit should go to Rahul Gandhi for daring to go alone in UP and Bihar despite pressure from the SP and RJD.
We think elections are swung only by caste considerations and by issues raised during the campaigns, but Rahul's example shows us this need not be true. This may well prove to be the most enduring and encouraging lesson of this election.
