Reports of Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao becoming the next Indian ambassador to the United States got her a number of congratulatory messages online.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said the choice was an excellent one, adding that Rao was someone she 'really admired.' As always, not everyone shared the sentiment.

Like Akhilesh Mishra, who tweeted: 'She is part of a clique that has played dossier games after 26/11. Just rewards!'

There was also this rather amusing comment from Atul Chaturvedi: 'No Maa, it's Nirupama Rao, not Roy. You don't get to be the Indian Ambassador by acting as Amitabh Bachchan's mother.'

On thinking beyond...
Arindam Chaudhuri, director of the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM), became a trending topic after filing a Rs 50 crore defamation suit against The Caravan magazine, its proprietors Delhi Press, author Siddhartha Deb, publishing house Penguin and Google India.

Priyanka Chaturvedi had a question: 'What made him stop at 50 crore? Why not 500? I feel like suing him for suing for such a small amount.' A certain Amit Agarwal had this to say: 'As a mark of protest, Chaudhuri should now block Google from indexing the IIPM website and also shut his YouTube account.'

What do you hate?
'One Thing I Can't Stand': A large number of folk felt the need to discuss this for a while. Responses included everything from 'people who always feel like proving themselves' to 'spam on Facebook', 'people who can't type properly', 'women who bring babies into movie theatres' and 'men who cheat on their beautiful girlfriends with women who look like Shrek's baby sister.'

The last word
Filmmaker Karan Johar had a strong message for his followers: 'I am NOT planning the remake of an acclaimed Malayalam film. I am actually in London to acquire the rights of a superb French film!' Ah. That's a relief then.
