Ragging continues to plague campuses. Criminal action should be initiated against such mischief mongers, say readers
Aman Kachroo's death due to ragging has given rise to a new debate.
The victim should approach the police at the very first instance to help nip this practice in the bud.
It's pointless to involve the police only after the matter gets out of hand.
Ragging is a criminal offense and just like any other crime, the police must get involved in the initial stages.
It's better to be safe than sorry. Once a complaint is registered against an identified person, the police will interrogate him and this will discourage him from bullying other students in the future. This is the only way to get rid of the menace.
Approaching the principal, warden and parents is sure to backfire as in most cases this only antagonises the miscreants.
However, when the police get involved even hardened criminals breakdown, so taming mischievous youth should not be such a task.
Also, the image of the police force has been overhauled. No longer are they the monsters they were considered to be. They are approachable and can find a solution to this problem.
Punish raggers
The two incidents of ragging, the one at the medical college in Himachal Pradesh and the other at the engineering college in Andhra Pradesh, has sent shock waves throughout the nation.
The death of Aman Kachroo, who was beaten by his senior and the suicide attempt by yet another girl who was forced to strip and forced to dance by her seniors, has attracted the attention of the Supreme Court towards the problem that has been plaguing college campuses for years now.
Ragging students in good humour to break the ice between the seniors and freshers in college is in good taste. But, these two incidents clearly indicate thatu00a0 raggers are like hardened criminals. The police should not spare them.
Those responsible for the death of Aman should be severely punished. They should be debarred from college and should be tried in court. This incident should serve as an example for other bullies so that they think twice before subjecting anyone to ragging.
Form forums

The death of Aman Kachroo has raised serious concerns over ragging, which is a disturbing trend growing in campuses across the country.
Bullies mostly rag the weaker students only to prove their might. However, in reality these miscreants are nothing but cowards.
The problem of ragging needs immediate attention. College authorities and students should get together and form forums to curb this menace.
