To give an uplift to the roads in the island city for the much-awaited Mumbai marathon on Sunday, footpaths are being spruced up, roads are being paved, streets are being beautified and drains are being cleaned.
All this is done to ensure that the marathon in an enjoyable experience for the participants. But, why is theu00a0 marathon that sees the participation of citizens from across the city held only in south Mumbai?
If the marathon is the reason for the BMC to clean up the streets, it should be held in the suburbs as well.
Hold the next Mumbai marathon in the Mahim-Mankhurd stretch. The route for the race should pass through Dharavi, Kurla, Chunabhatti and Chembur, the abysmally deplorable localities of the suburbs. These areas also need a facelift.
