He sidelined Mumbai, the financial capital of the country. Despite his antics, Lalu should be taken more seriously as he earned massive profits for the railways during his tenure of five years.
The strengthening of the dedicated eastern freight corridor, faster trains, no increase in freight rates, cut in passenger fares are welcome, though these are part of the forthcoming election goodies. But there are important areas, which need quick improvements, like rail safety, cleanliness in trains and stations and faster claim settlements. There is a pressing need to ensure supply of clean linen during rail travel.u00a0
But on the whole, Laluu00a0 had made remarkable improvements in Indian railways during his tenure as the railway minister, for which he deserves kudos.
