Spring has arrived, and with it has arrived the warmth of the new season. The transition from winter to spring is marked by the change of colours, temperature and weather and our life seems to be affected by these changes, including the way we dress. Lemon, fuchsia red, lavenders, greens, blues, greys are the colours of the season.
For the summer, reds, purples, oranges, pinks, and greens can be seen on anything from sandals and purses to shirts and capris. One should opt for comfortable garments and vibrant colours this season. You can also wear jumpsuits and short dresses, which are high on the trend quotient. Summer is a great time for celebration and people are ready to not only show off their summer clothes, but also their great accessories.
With Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) just around the corner, my excitement is at its peak. Since I would be showcasing my collection for SS 2010, I am really looking forward to people's reactions. The nervousness, the excitement and adrenal backstage rush is usually what drives me, but this time it somehow feels different... one could call it chilled out, or just plain relaxed.
A while back, I was somehow feeling absolutely blank, uninspired and was unable to come up with any creative designs. In fact, I had no notion of what to do or how to start on my new collection, until I decided to take some time off and seek some peace and happiness. I headed to "The Kingdom of Bhutan", the land that believes that progress is measured by gross national happiness (GNH) as opposed to gross domestic product (GDP).
I have travelled extensively around the world, but have never felt the aura of any place or people to be as peaceful and culturally strong. Walking on the streets, watching the craftsmanship on the palaces, buildings and even the airport... it was nothing less than a magical experience. The paintings, the art, the culture, the ornate geometry in the architecture and fusing all this in my design philosophy is what ultimately formed the platform for my SS 2010 collection.
Coming back to summer, the trend is all about being happy, vibrant and comfortable. Clean, minimalistic drapes would be ruling the ramp. Geometric prints, feminine silhouettes are what one should be expecting this summer. Dress fun, and more importantly, dress happy.
