The tributes continue

Dev Anand, who passed away at 88 early Sunday, continued to be the subject of reverential tweets from celebrities and non-celebs alike. Harsha Bhogle pointed out: 'Notice how the tributes always talk about the gentleman? I found that most endearing.' Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur added: 'Dev Anand nurtured talents like Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla and Vijay Anand. How many actors today can say that?' There was this comment, from Eccentricandhow: 'Steve Jobs. Jagjit Singh. Shammi Kapoor. Dev Anand. Bhupen Hazarika. God is the real Jewel Thief.' And from someone using the handle God Save India: 'Dear God, give us Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Jagjit Singh back. We'll give you A Raja, Kalmadi and many more politicians in return.'

Another celebrity clogging timelines was Tom Cruise, who managed to get his visage plastered on newspapers across the country. Madhavan Narayanan tweeted: 'Tom Cruise was in India to promote FDI in retail. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, it is called.' Vikram Sathaye had a suggestion: 'Cruise should be taken to all fake Rayban shops in Mumbai and told "This is what you did to India".' There was advice from Doug Davis: 'People, think....if you go see Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise will keep making movies!' And an observation from Shirish Kunder: 'Even with his last breath, Dev Anand has stolen the thunder from Tom Cruise.'

More celebrities on Twitter - actor Aamir Khan and his wife Kiran Rao, who were blessed with a baby boy reportedly born through IVF to a surrogate mother. This prompted Shivani Tripathi to tweet: 'Nice to see a high profile couple open and honest. Indians tend to hush-hush everything!'
