The traditional vows of a wife in ancient India have become quite a rage on Twitter in the twentieth century.
Karwa Chauth, where a woman is expected to fast for the longevity of her husband, is suddenly becoming popular among non- conservatives also.u00a0
u00a0The Botox jabs, the flush of resources invested in getting the face fixed for the day, is a sight which is attractive to the west. As analysts have pointed it out, the entire world is watching the competition between China's hare and India's tortoise.
The so-called fast or vrat on Karva Chauth has become a commercial stint with a huge market value
The so-called fast or vrat has become a commercial stint with a huge market value. Karwa Chauth today is as false as the market for fairness creams. But for the very same reasons, the irrational large-scale festival is a big hit for countries in the west.u00a0
u00a0Women in North India seem to outrage their own simplicity as they dress up in awkward ornaments, demanding red on this awaited festival. A majority of women, who are just overdressed, can wear everything except for the poise needed.u00a0
u00a0This ugly show of wrongly interpreted customs finds its best place in all the wrong places. In the media, on social networking sites, in tweets and just about everywhere it's not meant to be.
The said ritual in all technicalities had to be a word around love; something based on faith and shared in its rightful liaison. But in the present times, Karwa Chauth has transformed into a loud and pretentious show of belongings and money by women.
u00a0Too much noise and show about something, which is supposed to be a simple, pious convention, has just taken the soul out of the sane ritual. I cannot find a reason as to why things in our society always have to be so exaggerated without purpose.u00a0
u00a0But if it has to be, then why not accept the meaninglessness of the entire dress show? Maybe that would at least help keep the sanctity of the age-old routine. In which case, the fast might mean something to a modern wife who works in a corporate company, gets to see her husband only at weekends and keeps the fast as a small gesture of love.
