Asking for a feedback on the MNS is a smart move, says Chhaya Shetty

This is with reference to theu00a0 MiD DAY article "What do you think of our partyu2026" published on January 22.u00a0 The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) made its first smart movie by asking Mumbaikars for their feedback regarding the party.

There may be a few who will voice their opinion and give an honest feedback to Raj Thackeray. But the big question remains. If the answer is not appreciative of the MNS will the party supporters spare these ordinary citizens for calling a spade a spade?

Change ideology

The first thing that Raj needs to do is change the ideology of the party. MNS activists must realise that by assaulting the common man and by vandalising property they are not winning any brownie points.

The MNS chief should send out a stern message to his supporters demanding that they pay for all the damages caused by them.

Help in crisis

Mumbaikars are beginning to feel the heat of the global meltdown. The MNS can take the pressure off citizens by building schools that provide free education and hospitals that give free medical aid. They can also start awareness programmes.

Also, Raj Thackeray must go easy on the Marathi manoos agenda. A reservation for locals as far as jobs is considered can be acceptable, but only if the job applicant has the requisite qualifications.u00a0

Raj must not forget that Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city. He must curb his anti-north Indian tirade. He must adopt a more subtle approach to deal with the problem of migrants.

The MNS requires a complete overhaul of image. Today, the part has become synonymous with goondaism. And as result the image of the Marathi manoos has take a beating. Which business house will hire young Mumbaikars at the risk of them resorting to violence and damaging property at the slightest provocation?u00a0

Right intentions

Raj's intentions are right and Mumbaikars agree with most points in his agenda.

However, the MNS chief cannot demand either votes or respect from Mumbaikars. His party has to earn it. He must take immediate action to rid the violent image that he and his supporters have built. It's the only obstruction that stands between him and our votes.

Raj is a fighter and must rise to the occasion.
