Manish Gupta, Film Writer-Director

The attitude of the industry to not acknowledge a writer for his works, irks me and plays on my mind.

As a writer of a film like Sarkar, I felt that no one even bothered to admit the credibility of the pen behind it. At the same time, when I turned director, I got my share of bouquets and accolades.

Today, I prefer being a writer-director than penning others' scripts. Somehow, I feel that this industry, spells the death-knell for creative writers and they crib about the dearth of good writers on public forums.

We have so many examples. Anees Bazmee, Sanjay Chhel, Anurag Kashyap, Abbas Tyrewala, Milap Zaveri, to name a few.

We would probably have been happy penmen had it not been for us standing in the sidelines and watching our projects hit headlines without us even getting a pat on the back!
