'Piranha-like fish' attack 10 people in Argentina again

A school of carnivorous piranha-like fish has again attacked about 10 people bathing in an Argentine river, leaving them injured.

The attacks, that took place in the Parana River in Rosario, had earlier injured dozen people including children in December, the New York Daily News reported.

The latest attack by the "palometas" has been confirmed, and is described by the local director of lifeguards as "a type of piranha, big, voracious and with sharp teeth that can really bite".

Experts have said that the unusually high temperatures during the Austral summer and the decreasing numbers of species of fish that prey on these "palometas" could be the reason behind the attacks.
