Hwang Seul, Hwang Seol, Hwang Sol and Hwang Mil, the country's second set of quadruplets, were born at Gacheon University Gil Hospital in the city of Incheon west of Seoul in January 1989.

This week they returned to the hospital for the first time since then, to start work as probationer nurses, a hospital spokesman said.

Hospital chairwoman Lee Gil-Ya agreed in 1989 to admit their mother after other clinics turned her away. The babies were delivered safely by Caesarean section. Lee remitted the medical costs and promised to pay the girls' college tuition and give them nurses' jobs if they passed the state exam. The sisters passed the exam together last week.

"I would like to praise the mother for raising all four identical quadrupletsu00a0-- such a rare thing in the worldu00a0-- with such good care," said Lee. "I look forward to seeing those four women becoming great nurses like Florence Nightingale."u00a0
