3 climbers die on Mount Everest

Three climbers have died while returning from the summit of Mt Everest, officials in Nepal said yesterday. A South Korean man aged 44, a 61-year-old German man and a Nepal-born Canadian woman were all killed on Saturday.


A Chinese climber and his local mountain guide are still missing.u00a0The tragedy brings this year's death toll on the world's highest peak to five.

Ang Tshering Sherpa, of the Kathmandu-based Asian Trekking adventure agency, said, "We are sad to announce the death of Eberhard Schaaf, of Germany, at the south side of the summit of Mount Everest.

The medical staff at the Himalayan Rescue Association believe the cause of death to be altitude sickness." He added Song Won-Bin, from South Korea died at "The Balcony", an area near the top of the 29,029-foot peak. Tilak Pandey, a tourism ministry official at the Everest base camp, named the Canadian victim as Shriya Shah.u00a0
