Meet the new face of voter fatigue. Her name is Abigael Evans. She's tired of the constant campaigning, frustrated by both candidates - and she's four.
"This is my four-year-old daughter, Abigael, after hearing one too many mentions of the election," explained Elizabeth Evans of Fort Collins, Colorado, in the caption of a YouTubeu00a0video that has gone viral days before election day.
The video opens on a little girl with strawberry blonde hair and a pink jacket. She's standing in a parking lot and sobbing.u00a0Her mother has just asked why she is crying."Just because, I'm tired of Bronco Bamma and Mitt Romney," Abigael responds, managing an approximation of the president's name.u00a0"That's why you're crying?" her mother asks.
The little girl nods, inconsolable. "It'll be over soon, Abby, OK?" her mother says, soothingly. "The election will be over soon, OK?"
Trying to be brave, Abby nods again as a tear runs down her face. "Ok," she finally gasps, choking the word out through a sob.
According to her mother, the waterworks began following an election report by National Public Radio (NPR) station.
Hearing of the young girl's exasperation, NPR responsible issued a sympathetic apology on its website: "On behalf of NPR and all other news outlets, we apologise to Abigael and all the many others who probably feel like her.
We must confess, the campaign's gone on long enough for us, too. Let's just keep telling ourselves: "Only a few more days, only a few more days, only a few more days," the statement said.
Abigael's tantrum hit a raw nerve with plenty of political observers who felt that the girl had touched on an important sentiment for the American electorate. "We are all Abigael Evans," Time magazine declared yesterday.
The good news for Abby: There are only five days of campaigning left before Election Day on Tuesday.u00a0
