Devon suffers from a host of allergies so severe that mixing with other children could kill him. He spends most of his time in isolation and can eat only apples, corn and potato.

He sits at in Buffalo, US, and uses his computer to control the VGo, which lets him see his teacher, the blackboard and the rest of the class. It also has wheels so it can travel along corridors and let Devon join in the playground gossip.

Mum Rene said: "The VGo is basically a virtual Devon. He does exactly the same schoolwork as any other child. The only difference is that Devon is not in the classroom."
