Paris' Eiffel Tower was evacuated on Tuesday evening due to a bomb threat, the second one this month targeting the French landmark.

Paris' Eiffel Tower was evacuated on Tuesday evening due to a bomb threat, the second one this month targeting the French landmark.

Police said an anonymous call was placed from a phone booth saying that explosives had been planted at the tower, leading officers to evacuate visitors.

No explosives were found during an initial search of the landmark.

The tower had been evacuated two weeks earlier due to an anonymous bomb threat, with more than 2,000 people affected. The call turned out to be a hoax. Its perpetrator has yet to be identified.

Concern about a possible attack has risen in Paris, with Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux recently warning that there is an increased terrorist threat.

The French burqa ban and the government's aggressive course against Islamist terrorists is believed to have made the country a target for extremists.
