Australian-born Murdoch posted a message of support on his Twitter page after The Sun, the top-selling British tabloid he owns, printed the images of 27-year-old Harry in defiance of orders from the royal family.
"Prince Harry. Give him a break," wrote Murdoch. "He may be on the public payroll one way or another, but the public loves him, even to enjoy Las Vegas."
However, Rupert Murdoch defended the decision of the Sun to publish pictures of a naked Prince Harry in Las Vegas, saying it was necessary to make a point about the lack of âfree press' in Britain.
Showing no signs of retreating from a dust-up with regulators in Britain, he tweeted, "Needed to demonstrate no such thing as free press in the UK. Internet makes mockery of these issues. 1st amendment please."
The images of the third in line to the throne, cavorting nude with a mystery woman during a game of strip billiards, first surfaced on Wednesday on the US gossip website TMZ before going viral on the Internet.
The Sun, initially respected the royal family's request that British newspapers did not print the grainy camera-phone images, but broke ranks on Friday, claiming it did so in defence of press freedom.
A poll published in The Sunday Times newspaper found that some 68 per cent of Britons think Harry's behaviour was acceptable for a young single man on a private holiday.
Harry removes Facebook account
Prince Harry has deleted his Facebook account, amid privacy concerns highlighted by his naked antics in Las Vegas last week. He is a huge fan of the social networking site and appears under the pseudonym Spike Wells. But he has now deleted his account.
Harry offered Rs 55 cr to star in porn film
Porn movie producer Steve Hirsch has written a letter to Prince Harry offering him $10 million (Rs 55 crore) to star in an adult film. "We would like to offer you the opportunity to truly become the coolest Prince of all time, by starring in a fun, sexy, big-budget adult film called The Trouble with Harry, a letter quoted Hirsch as saying. "Of course, âlittle Harry' will make an appearance too, but we assure you the sex will be well scripted, and the Crown Jewels will not be minimised in any way," he wrote.
