Indian forensic scientist Professor Pakkirisamy Chandrasekharan, who investigated Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has been appointed as a Fellow with the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI).
Chandrasekharan, a lead investigator in Rajiv Gandhi assassination plot, had used forensic science to tell the world that the former Prime Minister was killed by a human bomb - Dhanu of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Sriperumpudur on May 21, 1993.
The Fellow is highest level of membership that it members can achieve and it is reserved for a select few who demonstrate experience, training and the highest levels of leadership in the field of forensic science, ACFEI said in a statement.
"World's largest forensic science association a part of its mission is to recognize the experience, education, and dedication of professionals who maintain the highest of ethical and forensic service standards," said Dr Robert L O'Block, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute.
Chandrasekharan, a Padma Bhushan recipient, had last year released his book: "The First Human Bomb- the Untold Story of the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination."
