A Brit man who allegedly groped a woman told jury at Chelmsford Crown Court that he suffered from a rare medical condition called sexsomnia.


A Brit man who allegedly groped a woman told jury at Chelmsford Crown Court that he suffered from a rare medical condition called "sexsomnia".

Darren Greenwood, 33, insisted he must have touched the girl while asleep and could not remember doing it, reports the Sun.u00a0

Backing his bizarre defence, Medical witness Professor Matthew Walker said: "It was a good example of sexsomnia - no knowledge or control of his actions.u00a0

"It fulfils the criteria completely. It mostly occurs between partners and with a person in bed," Matthew said.u00a0u00a0

Greenwood had only just met the 21-year-old girl, one of a group who went to his home in Loughton, Essex, after a night out.u00a0

She claimed she woke to find him lying by her and committing a sex act on her.u00a0

Prosecutor Richard Potts said the girl had been asleep and could not have consented.u00a0

Window fitter Greenwood, now living in Bethnal Green, East London, denies sexual assault.u00a0

He said he let the girl sleep in his bed and she allowed him to get in with her.u00a0

But he did not wake until 11am and was "oblivious to anything that happened".u00a0

The jury heard he had "parasomnia" which involved punching a wall in his sleep.
