Frenzied over a smelly meal, a Bangladeshi man in a horrifying act gouged out his wife's eye, after beating her up unconscious.
Abdul Aziz carried out the ghastly act after he complained of kerosene smell emanating from his evening meal on Saturday night at the remote Char Baaret in southern Patuakhali district in Bangladesh.
Anwara Begum, who was left bleeding throughout the night, is still fighting for life at a health complex.
The victim's family and hospital sources told reporters that the woman had served Abdul Aziz his supper like every other night but he started beating her up with an iron rod savagely after complaining of kerosene smell in his rice. He beat up the hapless woman until she fell unconscious, before pulling out her left eye using a slip of bamboo, they said.

Aziz prevented neighbours from taking his wife to the hospital and Anwara was left bleeding over the night. Afroza, an NGO worker, took Anwara to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex next morning, where doctors referred her to Barisal Hospital as the injury was critical.
The woman however could not go to Barisal as she had no money and is still fighting for life.
