Man missing for 30 years solves his own disappearance after suddenly remembering who he is

A man missing for 30 years has solved his own disappearance - by suddenly remembering who he is.

Edgar Latulip was 21 when he vanished from his home in Kitchener, Ontario, in September 1986.

The young man was being treated in a hospital after attempting suicide and police believed he may have travelled to Niagara Falls to kill himself, the Guelph Mercury reported.

His mother, Sylvia Wilson, feared her son, who had the mental age of a child, had been abused or accidentally killed.

Speaking two years ago, she said: "When Edgar disappeared, I became quite sick. I had to take a leave of absence from work.

"I was near a nervous breakdown. Having an answer would mean closure."

The answer finally came on Wednesday when police revealed that Latulip was alive and well, living just 80 miles away from where he disappeared.

Now 50, he had a sudden flash on memory in January and told a social worker who he was.

A DNA test confirmed the discovery last week.

Mrs Wilson told CTV News she had not yet spoken to her son but was overwhelmed to know he was alive.

Waterloo regional police believe Latulip suffered some sort of head injury which caused him to lose his memory.

Detective Duane Gingerich told CTV News: "It's the only case, that I know of, where we've been able to find someone who has been missing for this period of time."
