Man sets himself on fire at Breivik trial

A man has set himself on fire outside the court where Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik is on trial accused of murdering 77 people.


Police said the man doused himself in flammable liquid and set himself alight as he tried to break through the security fence around the courthouse in Oslo yesterday.

He suffered serious burns and was taken to Oslo University Hospital.u00a0Police operations leader Finn Belle said the man's identity and his motive were not immediately clear.

Asked whether the incident was connected to the trial going on since mid-April against Breivik, he added: "One would think there is one connection or another but we don't have any information on that."

Breivik is currently standing trial accused of killing 77 people, mostly students, in a bomb and gun rampage in July last year.u00a0The fire incident came as a survivor of the attack on Utoeya island gave her testimony to the court.

Ina Rangones told how she ran from the crazed gunman after being shot in the face, both forearms and her left breast.u00a0The 22-year-old said, "I remember the feeling of being shot. I thought my hands were shot off as I couldn't feel anything."u00a0Rangones, who now hides her scars with make-up, added that she "tasted blood and the bullet" after she was shot in the jaw.

A teen recalled yesterday how he clung to a 50ft cliff for hours to escape mass killer Anders Breivik. Marius Holt said at the gunman's trial, "Breivik was just above me on the cliff shooting people. I started crying, but decided to hold back the tears until I was safe. I thought about my mother." Marius was the last survivor off the Norwegian island of Utoeya.u00a0
