Monica Lewinsky has alleged in a new book that former U.S President Bill Clinton lied under oath about their affair during the impeachment trial.

"The Death of American Virtue" by law professor Ken Gormley is the book that has made the claim.

Lewinsky sent e-mail to the author suggesting the former president had lied.

She wrote: "There was no leeway [there] on the veracity of his statements because they asked him detailed and specific questions to which he answered untruthfully."

Also, Gormley speculates in his book that Clinton had long-running affair with Susan McDougal, a key player in the Whitewater scandal.

McDougal had been imprisoned for 18 months after she refused to answer questions from prosecutors.

However, Clinton pardoned her in 2001 during the end of his presidency.

"I feel very, very comfortable with that conclusion after having conducted extensive interviews and seen documents that were not generally accessible to the public," the Telegraph quoted Gormley as telling Politico.com.
