Obama Elementary School to shut down due to low enrolment

A school that bears President Barack Obama's name is reportedly set to be shut down due to low enrolment.

According to the Asbury Park Press, the Barack H. Obama Elementary School in Asbury Park, N.J., will close its doors this summer as part of a school district consolidation plan resulting from a declining number of students there, the New York Post reported.

Students at the school, previously known as the Bangs Avenue School until it was renamed for Obama two years ago, will be reassigned to two separate schools when its doors officially close July 1.

Bruce N. Rodman, the state-appointed official who manages the school district's finances, said enrolment at the Obama school had seen a 35 percent drop over the past ten years.
