Pakistan welcomed US President-elect Donald Trump's offer of playing a role in resolution of longstanding issues, media reports said
Islamabad: "We welcome Trump's desire to play a role in resolution of longstanding issues," Xinhua news agency quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Nafees Zakaria as saying on Thursday.
Trump, who spoke with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday, said he is ready to play "any role to address the outstanding problems" and "find solutions" to them, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
This was the first telephone conversation between the two leaders after Trump's victory in elections last month.The spokesman said at his weekly briefing that Trump had previously expressed his desire of playing a role in resolution of Kashmir dispute with India.
The Foreign Ministry said Sharif had also invited the US president-elect to visit Pakistan.Zakaria said Sharif's call to Trump was a routine matter to felicitate him on his victory in elections.
