Islamabad: A Pakistani truck driver arrested by Indian police after he accidentally ran over a labourer in the neighbouring country was released, a media report said on Friday.
According to a press release issued by the Customs Collectorate (Preventive) Lahore on Thursday, Ali Mohammad, a resident of Makin district in North Waziristan, was arrested on April 27, 2015, when an Indian labourer died after being hit by his truck, Dawn online reported.
The accident took place when the driver was unloading a gypsum consignment at the Indian Customs Port in Attari.
The driver was to return to Pakistan the same day, in accordance with the time-specific entry permit issued by the Customs authorities at the Wagah border crossing.
However, he was detained detained after the accident.
Pakistan Customs kept taking up the matter with the Indian authorities through the Indian Customs, using the platform of Customs Border Liaison Committee (CBLC).
In the last CBLC meeting held in India on January 28, the matter was again raised by the Pakistani officials.
On Wednesday, Ali Mohammad was handed over by the Indians to the Customs Deputy Collector of the Land Freight Unit, Tauqeer Ahmed Dar, at Zero Point.
