The tongue-in-cheek action took place at a Rotary Club luncheon where about 15 activists turned up uninvited and presented Jean Sarkozy with the honour.
The 22-year-old Sarkozy, a regional councillor from the chic Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, laughingly accepted the diploma after overcoming initial surprise.
"Well done!", he said after the activists, dressed in white lab coats, proceeded to lecture Sarkozy on the rich-poor divide. "It was a pleasure tal-king with you," he quipped.
Save the Rich! was formed last month with the professed goal of helping wean France's wealthy class away from its "crass, vulgar and very sad lifestyle".
Earlier this month, the group targeted advertising magnate Jacques Seguela who sparked outrage in France when he claimed that anyone who doesn't own a Rolex by the age of 50 is a "failure".
