Just days after a New York teen made headlines for sending over 14,500 SMSes in a month, Florida resident Brad Cox said his daughter Emilee (14) has topped 35,000 text messages a month twice last year. She peaked with 35,463 texts sent and received in June, averaging about 1,182 messages a day.
Cox said Emilee's texting slowed before Christmas when she switched to a new provider with a new phone that lacks a keyboard. Pointing out that it keeps her from being bored and out of trouble, Cox said there were worse habits that Emilee could develop.
In an SMS to a newspaper, Emilee said she SMSed a lot, as she doesn't like talking on the phone. Her SMS-es are covered by an unlimited plan.
Other teens start stripping for sexting craze
Thousands of teens are stripping off for the latest disturbing craze to sweep schools u2014 Sexting. A study has revealed 20 per cent of American teenagers have texted or posted naked or semi-naked pictures or video of themselves online.
According to the study, most teens send sexually suggestive content to their boyfriends or girlfriends, while others say they send such material to those they are attracted to or to someone they only know online. The study also showed that 44 per cent of teens say it is common for sexually explicit images and SMSes to be shared with people other than the intended recipient.
The teens, however, don't realise that sexting could land them in trouble with the law for pornography.
