Terrorist used FB, cellphone to escape from jail

A terrorist freed by Taliban militants who stormed a jail in country's northwest on Sunday was in touch with the outside world through a mobile phone, Facebook and blogs.

Over 380 other prisoners besides Adnan Rashid, who was on death row for an attempt to assassinate former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, escaped from the Central Jail at Bannu in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province Sunday.

Rashid had used mobile phones inside death row cells of different jails where he was held, the Dawn newspaper quoted its sources as saying Monday.

A former junior technician of the Pakistan Air Force, Rashid also was active on several social networking sites including Facebook and contributed to blogs from inside prison, the report said.u00a0

He was in contact with persons outside the prison, including several journalists, through his mobile phone and even sent SMSs to the reporters.

Meanwhile, on Monday, a Taliban commander who helped plan the assault told Reuters his group had inside information.u00a0

"We had maps of the area and we had complete maps and plans of the jail as well," the commander said, on condition of anonymity.u00a0

The inspector general for prisons in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Arshad Majeed said, "It is possible that attackers had inside help."

Authorities probing the incident removed four senior officials over the escape on Monday.
