Trump bags spotlight but for nothing he did — an artist mocks his ‘Mexico wall’ rhetoric, Pence gives Hillary a title, Cruz is booed for not backing him and a writer apologises for Melania’s copied speech

Los Angeles: An American street artist erected a miniature wall around Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to mock his rhetoric of building a wall between Mexico and the US to stop illegal migration.

The 6-inch wall made of wooden planks and topped with barbed wire emerged around the 70-year-old controversial real estate tycoon's star, which was also plastered with "keep out" signs.
The tiny wall by popular Los Angeles-based street artist known as âPlastic Jesus' was, however, removed in a few hours.
The artist, known for posting "No Trump Anytime" signs on street corners in Los Angeles, New York and other cities earlier this year, tweeted: "I built and paid for the wall myself. No Mexican money."
Clinton the secy of status quo: Pence
Cleveland: Republican Vice President nominee Mike Pence yesterday gave Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton the title of âthe secretary of thestatus quo' who personifies the failed establishment that weakened America's place in the world.
"People in both parties are restless for change, ready to break free of old patterns in Washington. And Democrats are about to anoint someone who represents everything this country is tired of," Pence (57) said in his vice presidential acceptance speech.
"You know, Hillary Clinton wants a better title and I would, too, if I was already America's secretary of the status quo," Pence said amidst applause from the audience during the ongoing Republican National Convention. He said the choice could not be clearer.
He alleged that seven-and-a-half years of Barack Obama and Clinton's policies have weakened Americ's place in the world.
Back Trump or be booed, Ted Cruz
Cleveland: Texas Senator Ted Cruz was booed during the ongoing Republican National Convention after he did not endorse Donald Trump as the party's presidential nominee and asked Americans to "vote your conscience" in the November election.

Cruz only went as far as congratulating Trump, who was his bitter rival in the primary contests. This resulted in booing of Cruz by Trump supporters as millions of Americans and people globally saw bringing to the fore the divide in the Republican party.
"We deserve leaders who stand for principle. Unite us all behind shared values. Cast aside anger for love. That is the standard we should expect, from everybody," Cruz said in his speech as he set his standard for the next US president.
Writer takes blame for plagiarised speech
Washington: An aide for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took responsibility for copying portions of First Lady Michelle Obama's 2008 address for Melania Trump's convention speech on Monday.
A statement by the campaign featured an apology from Meredith McIver.
Staff writer Meredith McIver, said while working with Melania Trump on her speech, the two discussed many people who inspired Melania. "A person she (Melania) has always liked is Michelle Obama," McIver said. "She read me some passages from Mrs. Obama's speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrases in the draft," she said.
According to McIver, she did not check Michelle Obama's 2008 speech. "This was my mistake and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Michelle Obama," said McIver.
