Baghdad: The radio of the Islamic State militant group on Saturday claimed that two of its followers carried out Wednesday's San Bernardino mass shooting in California.
The terrorist group made the declaration on their official radio station three days after the attack that left 14 people killed and some 21 others injured when two attackers identified as Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, burst into a holiday party for the environmental health department in the Inland Regional Centre in San Bernardino, California.
"We pray to God to accept them as martyrs," Xinhua quoted al-Bayan Radio as saying.
Al-bayan Radio station in Iraq was owned and operated by the IS extremist group. The station airs news and programs in the Arabic, Kurdish, English, French, and Russian languages.
The radio station went on-air in early 2015 with English-language news bulletins added to the multilingual programming lineup in April of that year.
The station offers a wide-range of programming including language instruction, interview shows, interspersed with regular news bulletins and field reports from al-Bayan correspondents in Iraq and Syria.
The latest attack in California was the second inside the US that was claimed by IS terrorist group, as the extremist group claimed responsibility for an attack on May 3 when two of its followers opened fire outside a contest for cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed in Texas, wounding an unarmed security guard.
An IS statement on May 5 said "we tell America that what is coming are worse and more bitter, and that you will see from the soldiers of the IS what will aggravate you."
