Children's Secretary Ed Balls, a Labour candidate for Morley and Outwood was fined for talking on the phone while driving from Yorkshire to London last week

He took the phone off its hands-free cradle because he did not want to wake his children, he said, and was spotted by police "almost immediately."

"We got waved down by a police car and I accepted the fine and three points there and then. I 100% support the law on mobile phones ufffd it's there to protect the safety of all drivers, passengers and pedestrians," he said.
