A woman, Eulalia Garcia, has become a United States citizen after spending 101 years in the country.

Garcia came to Texas in the arms of her mother when she was only six months old in October 1909.

Her naturalization ceremony took place in Brownsville, Texas, on Tuesday.

"I feel really good about what I have accomplished - at my age and with my health," the BBC quoted Garcia, as saying.

She said that the first thing she wanted to do as an American is to vote in the mid-term elections on November 2.

"Sure, I do - for the best [candidate]," Garcia said.

Born in the Mexican city of Monterrey, she has outlived two husbands and her two sons.

Earlier, Garcia had a Certificate of Lawful Entry card, issued to her in April 1941, which gave her the right to cross the border to visit family and friends in Mexico.
