Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles III of Britain has been diagnosed with cancer following treatment for benign prostatic enlargement. The 75-year-old monarch has begun regular treatments and will postpone his public appearances per medical advice, while he continues to perform vital official tasks, stated a PTI report.
According to the report, the particular form of cancer has not been revealed, but the palace claimed that King Charles is still positive about his treatment. Despite the postponement of public appearances, he will continue to carry out his duties as Head of State, with an emphasis on paperwork and private meetings.
The King's medical team quickly diagnosed the cancer during a recent hospital procedure, for which he is grateful. He has opted to publicise his condition to prevent conjecture and boost cancer awareness, the report added.
"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," reads the Buckingham Palace statement.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual," it said.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer," it added.
Accompanying the statement, the Palace presented a new portrait of the King taken during a royal visit to France in September.
According to the report, politicians, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer, have expressed their best wishes for the King's recovery. US President Joe Biden expressed concern and offered support.
King Charles III personally told his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, about his diagnosis. Prince William maintains regular touch with his father, and Prince Harry intends to visit the UK from the US to see him, the report added.
The news of the King's illness comes while Princess Kate is recovering from stomach surgery. King Charles III's choice to make his cancer treatment public is consistent with his previous support for cancer-related charities.
The Royal Society of Medicine praised the King's efforts to raise cancer awareness and encouraged eligible individuals to get screened.
The King and Queen's planned travels to Canada in May and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October are also unclear, pending the King's restoration to full public duties, the report further read.
