On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Uzbekistan's capital, where he will meet with President Shavkay Mirziyoyev. The talks are anticipated to centre on strengthening ties between the two nations.

Putin laid a wreath at Tashkent's Independence Monument and reportedly had informal talks with Mirziyoyev, according to the Kremlin. The presidents will convene in an official session on Monday.

Since taking office for a fifth term in May, Putin has travelled abroad three times. He first travelled to China, expressing gratitude for China's proposals for negotiations to end the situation in Ukraine, and then he travelled to Belarus, the country where Russia has stationed tactical nuclear weapons.

Putin and Mirziyoyev talked about a range of bilateral cooperation topics, including trade and economic relations, before the Uzbekistan trip, according to the Kremlin.
