The Israel-Hamas war in Bethlehem has significantly affected its usually bustling Christmas season, deterring tourists and pilgrims from visiting historic town.

Hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops in Bethlehem are witnessing a significant downturn due to the absence of tourists and pilgrims, leaving these establishments deserted and devoid of customers, stated media reports.

A report stated that long-standing businesses, like the Alexander Hotel, are experiencing an unparalleled downturn during the Christmas season, with cancellations disrupting their usual bustling festivities.

Manger Square, typically vibrant during Christmas celebrations, and nearby streets, usually bustling with souvenir shops, now appear quiet and almost empty due to the lack of visitors.

For decades, Bethlehem's hospitality industry thrived during Christmas, often accommodating visitors who overflowed the town's lodging capacity, however, the escalation of the war has had adverse effects on the region.

This occupation, which Palestinians vehemently oppose, includes the construction of Jewish settlements, widely regarded as illegal across international territories.

The presence and expansion of these settlements have sparked riots and tensions in historical and biblical cities, exacerbating the longstanding discord between Israelis and Palestinians.

Recent months have witnessed a surge in clashes between Jewish settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank, reaching a 15-year high before the significant Hamas attack.

The increased frequency of attacks has further fueled the conflict dynamics, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and instability in the region. Several Israeli ministers residing in settlements have supported their expansion, intensifying the already tense situation and leading to heightened violence and unrest in the West Bank.
