It was a sad moment for fans of Mark Boucher when he announced his retirement from international cricket after undergoing eye surgery following a severe injury


CS brings you some little-known facts about the veteran South Africa wicketkeeper, who was described as a ‘warrior' by Graeme Smith, South Africa's captain:

>> His full name is Mark Verdon Boucher.



>> As a child, he grew up on a steady dose of rugby and cricket, with a little squash thrown in.

>> Boucher made his test debut in the year 1997 and played 147 test matches for South Africa, becoming the first wicketkeeper to take 500 catches in test cricket. He ended with 555 dismissals.

>> In an interview, he had revealed that he has always admired Jonty Rhodes' enthusiasm and continues to admire him.

>> He became the first wicketkeeper in the history of test cricket to reach the milestone of 400 dismissals when he caught Danish Kaneria off the bowling of Makhaya Ntini in 2007 in the second test match of the Bank Alfalah Test Series against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
