Aditya Verma: Mandatory cooling off period is a milestone decision

Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma described the Supreme Court's (SC) verdict on the mandatory cooling off period for administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office bearers as a 'milestone decision'.

Indian cricket officials are now restricted to two terms of three years each before a cooling off period comes into play. Verma, one of the petitioners in the case versus the BCCI, said he is the happiest person in Indian cricket today.

"The SC order is a milestone decision as far as BCCI's administration is concerned. They [SC] gave sufficient time to BCCI and waited for them to implement the Justice Lodha Committee reforms, but the board failed to do so. Even the SC-appointed Committee of Administrators couldn't do much before the SC's verdict instructed the board and state associations to implement the order or face the consequences," Verma told mid-day from Delhi yesterday.

"This order will make a positive change in Indian cricket. Earlier, office bearers did not think about leaving the association once they made an entry. Now, with the cooling off period, there will be no monopoly," said Verma.
