Tendulkar shared a room with Dilbir once when both were part of the U-17 West Zone team for a zonal tournament.
Dilbir was handicapped after his motorcycle collided with a tanker in 2002 and his life changed forever. Dilbir needs a walking frame and to compound his misery, his first wife abandoned him.
"The second wife, Rajvinder was harassing him since last year. The room in which he was allegedly held hostage was dark and unkempt. Cobwebs and termites could be seen all over the walls," said sub-inspector Anila Brahmbhatt, who is attached with the Gandhinagar police station.
"Dilbir's wife had confiscated his ATM card too. His neighbours informed his mother, who lives in the UK, and she lodged a complaint after arriving here. After proper investigations, we have booked his wife under IPC 342," Brahmbhatt added.
But yesterday, Dilbir was delighted to see Tendulkar in his room. Tendulkar was informed of Dilbir's condition a few days ago and he immediately offered to help.
