Roddick sprints away with first round win on opening morning of Aus Open
Andy Roddick came out of the blocks fast and furious on the first morning of the season's opening Grand Slam today morning.
Seventh seed Roddick beat Swede Bjorn Rehnquist 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 at Melbourne Park to set the ball rolling.
Rehnquist never looked like throwing a challenge to the big-serving American and his task was made tougher by Roddick's burst in the opening moments of the match.
After serving out the opening game, Roddick broke the Swede to race away with the lead. Rehnquist never recovered from that as Roddick went on to win the first set 6-0 and even take a seventh straight game in the second set, breaking the Swede's serve.
No chance
However, backed by a large Swedish supporters' group, Rehnquist did manage to pull things back to an even keel in the second set, breaking Roddick back andu00a0 levelling the set at 1-1.
But Roddick had no problems breaking again in the second set and twice more in the third as he raced away with the match.
Meanwhile, in her women's first round match, Ana Ivanovic overcame early jitters to overcome Germany's Julia Goerges.
It looked like the 2008 runner-up will have to fight harder than she eventually had to when Goerges broke her early.
The German had the upperhand with a 3-1 lead in the first set.
However, the Serb broke back and levelled things up before going on the win the set. No such trouble in the second as the fifth seed eventually won 7-5, 6-3.
