Australia took a 30-run first innings lead despite a strong South African fightback on the second day of the second Test at the Wanderers on Thursday.
Australia were bowled out for 296, losing all their wickets for 122 runs after an opening stand of 174 between Shane Watson (88) and Phil Hughes (88).
Only four balls were bowled in South Africa's second innings, with no runs scored, before bad light ended play.
