It's been a year since Sharad Pawar ended his term as Board of Control for Cricket in India chief, but it is still Pawar's Board from the time the Maratha strongman displaced the Jagmohan Dalmiya group in 2006. It is learnt that Pawar's Board will now face serious opposition what with the entry of Bharatiya Janata Party biggie Narendra Modi, who recently became president of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA).

Nationalist Congress Party chief Pawar and Modi are no friends when it comes to politics and those differences could creep into the BCCI corridors too.

Modi is expected to represent (GCA) at today's BCCI Annual General Meeting. Pawar is still president of Mumbai Cricket Association.

"Modi has just made his debut as a cricket administrator, but he will not be a mute spectator at this AGM," said a source.

It is learnt that Modi has the backing of Cricket Association of Bengal chief Dalmiya and a couple of important Board members who are not exactly thick with the current regime. Modi is expected to raise critical issues with regards to the expenditure on the two editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), an event that comes under the BCCI banner.

The BCCI vs International Management Group issue concerning payment to the sports management firm will be discussed threadbare.

It can be recalled that BCCI contemplated doing away with IMG's services since they found their fees towards the running of the IPL very high. IMG enjoy the support of Pawar.
